This study aims to explore the significance of the semiotic approach as an effective procedural tool for analyzing contemporary Arabic poetry. Based on the premise that the modern poem, with its complex structural and semantic characteristics, transcends the limits of traditional critical approaches, this article presents semiotics as a scientific methodology capable of deconstructing the intricate sign systems within the poetic text and revealing its mechanisms of meaning production. The theoretical section of the research addresses the foundational semiotic concepts (the sign, signifier and signified, symbol, icon, index, intertextuality, spatial semiotics) as developed by pioneers such as Ferdinand de Saussure, Charles Sanders Peirce, Roland Barthes, and Umberto Eco. In its applied section, the article provides an in-depth semiotic reading of two prominent examples of contemporary Arabic poetry: Adonis's "This Is My Name" and a section from Mahmoud Darwish's "Mural." It demonstrates how semiotic tools contribute to uncovering hidden semantic networks, tracing the transformations of symbols, and understanding the dynamics of interaction between language, image, and textual space in constructing the modern poetic experience. The study concludes that the semiotic approach does not offer a definitive reading but rather opens the text to its semantic plurality, transforming the reading process into a productive dialogue with the poem's "textuality" and affirming its pivotal role in understanding the aesthetics and complexities of contemporary poetry.
