Oil-rich countries, particularly Islamic ones, generally face significant challenges in managing their petroleum wealth. This is especially evident given their failures in achieving high and sustainable growth. Moreover, the continuation of their current economic policies will inevitably lead to the long-term depletion of their financial savings, consequently worsening the prospects for future generations. In contrast, other oil-producing nations, such as Norway, have demonstrated remarkable success in converting their finite oil resources into productive assets, in accordance with the requirements for achieving sustainable development and maintaining intergenerational equity. Driven by academic curiosity, this paper seeks to further explore the factors behind the success of the Norwegian experience, with the aim of deriving lessons and insights for other Islamic oil-exporting countries.
