At the beginning of the twentieth century, Algeria witnessed a different style of struggle from the previous period, where the signs of political action and associative reform and educational activity began to appear in an effort to awaken national consciousness and revive the cultural heritage of the Algerian nation through the establishment of associations and social and cultural clubs to confront the various colonial strategies. The colonial authorities allowed Algerians to engage in associative work without political ones in an effort to attract social groups to their ranks. This was evident in the decree of July 1901, which allowed the establishment of associations of a cultural or social nature and targeted Europeans in particular, but the Algerian elite took advantage of the circumstances and engaged in this endeavour in order to gain experience that would later enable them to establish many associations and clubs. I decided to address this topic in order to identify the associative activity that accompanied the activity of the national movement during the first half of the twentieth century and the extent to which it was influenced by the associative activity of Europeans in Algeria, then how it turned into a national action that contributes to spreading awareness and mobilising society to confront the various colonial schemes.
