This research paper aims to examine the role of trade union work and the roles played by working groups through the ideas and positions expressed by trade union leaders in French West Africa in the liberation process. One of the conclusions reached is that the absolute control of French imperialism did not limit the trade union activity pushing for independence as the pivotal force in assembling, mobilizing, training and influencing the intellectually mature working mass that was psychologically and morally prepared to pay the required material and physical prices in the escalating conflict with the administration and imperial power on a path from which there is no turning back.
