Abstract: Cinema is an art that reflects our reality and presents what exists within the folds of life, encompassing the diverse themes of the world, whether real or fictional. Cinema has the right to present the unreal — the world of imagination — thanks to its ability to depict what does not actually exist. In the end, it is a creative process based on characters, visual effects, and software enhancements through editing and montage tools, all of which originate from writing on paper, known as the script. These qualities and dimensions give cinema the ability to adopt narratives and stories that require visual representation beyond the limits of reality. Beyond romantic, action, or fantasy films, cinema sometimes has the power to address unusual themes, among them, revolution. Cinema has explored, in many works, the biographies of figures who brought about radical change in reality and challenged prevailing conditions through an idea or a revolutionary movement. It has also played an important role in portraying popular resistance and liberation movements worldwide, whether in African nations, colonized countries, or movements that opposed unjust ideas or regimes imposed on people. Although cinema has addressed such themes in earlier works, many of these films were not categorized as what could be called a “revolutionary film.” This brings us to the central question of this paper: How has revolution been represented in cinema? Our aim is to study how revolution is represented in cinema — to identify the aesthetic and intellectual dimensions of this representation, as well as the possibility of defining and grounding the concept of revolutionary cinema. Keywords: Revolution, The Cinema of the Peaceful Revolution, Cinematic Representation of Revolution.
