This article presents five recently published works that focus on genealogy, biographies, and personal narratives in the western region of Algeria. Some of these are heritage books that have been edited and republished, while others are entirely new publications. Our approach in this presentation consists of introducing the subject matter of these works, summarizing the information they contain, highlighting their significance, and assessing their contribution to rewriting the local history of the region—particularly with regard to the genealogies of certain tribes and clans, and the commemoration of notable figures. We also address the methodologies used in compiling these books, introduce their authors and editors, and commend their efforts in this rich and important field of historical studies. We begin the presentation with the heritage books from the Rashidiyya region, primarily the book Al-Majmūʿ al-Muyassar li-Mudawwanāt al-Ansāb wa al-Tarājim bi-Faḍāʾ al-Rāshidiyya (The Simplified Collection of Genealogical and Biographical Records in the Rashidiyya Area), compiled and arranged by Taqi al-Din Boukaaber. This book includes five texts focused on genealogy in the Ghriss region and occupies a significant part of this article. We then present Manāqib al-Tilimsāniyyīn (Virtues of the Tlemcenians) by ʿAbd Allah ʼibn Muhammad ʼibn Yūsuf ʼal-Qaysī ʼal-Thaghrī ʼal-Tilimsānī (who lived at the end of the 8th century AH), edited by Guendouz Mahi. After that, we examine additional works from various locations in western Algeria, totaling five books, either authored or edited. In this regard, we commend the efforts made by a number of researchers to extract, publish, and authenticate this deep and important heritage.
