The poets in the Odjak of Cezayir Garp, most of whom were soldiers, wrote poems about the wars they participated in and witnessed firsthand. These wars can be classified under three headings: 1. Wars in the Mediterranean and Algeria in general, 2. Wars with the King of Spain, 3. Murat Reis's wars. The heroism of the governors of Algeria, Abdi Pasha and Mehmet Pasha; the expeditions to Jijel, Tunis and the Canary Strait; the wars with the Germans, Spaniards, Portuguese and Hungarians are the subjects of the poems written by Kuloğlu, Benli Ali, Mağriplioğlu, Nakdi, Şemsi and Seferlioğlu. The poems of Gedâ Muslu and Âşık Halil, which deal with the wars against the King of Spain, are like fragments of an epic. The poems feature conversations between the Spanish king and the poet. Küçük Murat Reis, on the other hand, is a sailor who is grown in Western Odjacks and gained fame for his raids in the western Mediterranean. He led an expedition to the Canary Islands, captured Lundy Island, located southwest of Bristol Harbour and turned it into a base, and instilled great fear in the enemy with his expeditions to Denmark and Iceland. Poets such as Çırpanlı, Armutlu, and Kul Çulha Ali describe the battles fought by Murat Reis. These poems serve as vivid testimonies to Turkish dominance and decline in the Mediterranean.
