Blockchain And Museums: Towards Secure Digitization And Legal Traceability Of Algeria's Tangible Cultural Heritage

Authors : Boughrara Asmaa .

Abstract

Museum objects and old manuscripts are valuable treasures. Theft, destruction, or damage can cause them to be lost forever. Therefore, digitization is an essential solution for preserving these cultural objects. However, traditional technology used to record this data has a significant disadvantage. This is their centralized structure, i.e. the concentration of information in a single point. If this central point collapses (hardware failure, cyber-attack, natural disaster), the entire system becomes unavailable. This exposes the data to the risk of loss or alteration. Distributed structures and blockchain technology in particular offer robust alternatives. Distributing data to several interconnected points ensures greater resilience in consideration of collapse. Furthermore, blockchain ensures data reliability and traceability thanks to encryption mechanisms. In this article, we will explore how this technology can revolutionize the digital preservation of cultural objects in Algeria.
