From Traditional Playgrounds To Screens In Algerian Society: A Psychological Analysis Of Interactive Video Game Addiction Among Children And Adolescents

Authors : Kelfah Amel .

Abstract

Algerian societies have transformed their traditional neighborhood games into interactive electronic games which provided both social and cooperative learning opportunities. Digital games deliver entertainment and mental stimulation but simultaneously create psychological hazards which lead to addictive behavior. The virtual world attracts children and teenagers by providing them with escape from boredom and loneliness and also helps them overcome shyness or low self-esteem. Virtual accomplishments deliver feelings of competence which they lack in their actual lives thus increasing their social detachment and decreasing their self-esteem. The situation demands immediate action to build psychological literacy throughout social institutions starting with families who must establish dialogue and implement purposeful real-world activities which defend youth against digital dependency.
