This study offers a critical reading of the novel "The Sandbox" by the Libyan novelist Aisha Ibrahim. A postcolonial novel in which history intertwines with memory. The author chronicles the events of the Italian occupation of the city of Tripoli, examining the historical, psychological, economic, and social factors surrounding this occupation. Through this reading, we aim to explore the characteristics of this fictional narrative, which takes the desert as its geographical setting, and to highlight the historical role of this environment in the process of decolonization within its civilizational framework: the Global South. The study also points to the various types of postcolonial writing and interrogations of southern collective memory within it. And by invoking the theme of memory, the study further addresses the dialectic of recognition and forgiveness in postcolonial writing between North and South.
