Summary: The article deals with the issue of intertextuality with ancient poetry in contemporary Arabic poetry, and chooses specific poetic models for its approach, on the basis that intertextuality is a literary phenomenon that is more present in contemporary Arab poetry and more important because it reveals the existing relationships between texts, both visible and implicit. Contemporary Arabic poetry has always evoked ancient poetic texts from different eras of Arabic literature to enrich its semantic structure and to open unlimited horizons for its interpretation. The approach does not go beyond specific poetic models of three contemporary poets whose intertextuality was remarkably evident. They are Youssef Al-Azem, Muhammad Ali Al-Rabawi, Hassan Al-Amrani, and Najib Al-Kilani. This article relies on the description and analysis of mechanisms for the approach, as it stands on clear poetic intertextuality, identifies its source, and determines its significance and type by adopting what the Moroccan critic Muhammad Bennis concluded in his study of intertextuality (the absent text) in Arabic poetry. Contemporary, intertextuality may be ruminative, absorbent, or dialogical. The selected texts varied between vertical and free, which did not receive an adequate approach, in which the intertextuality varied between rumination, absorption, and dialogue. Keywords: ancient poetry - commentaries - intertextuality - opposition - dialogue - absorption - rumination.
