This paper investigates the complex practice of film translation as a multidimensional process that encompasses linguistic, cultural, and aesthetic adaptation. The study analyzes two central techniques—dubbing and subtitling—through the lens of audiovisual translation theory, exploring their respective advantages and limitations regarding linguistic fidelity, cultural adaptation, production cost, and viewer experience. Drawing on comparative examples from Arabic and global cinema, the paper highlights how translational choices influence audience comprehension and artistic reception. It concludes that the selection between dubbing and subtitling transcends mere technical considerations, reflecting broader cultural, commercial, and interpretive dynamics that define film translation as a nuanced art of negotiation.
