The Continuity Of Libyan And Punic Languages In The Ancient Maghreb (in The Light Of The Expansion Of Latin 146 Bc-40 Ad)

Authors : Bougoffa Nouressadate .

Abstract

During the Roman occupation era, the ancient Maghreb witnessed the spread and domination of Latin due to receiving political and legal support, which led to the decline of Libyan, the original language of the ancient Maghreb society, and Punic, the language of Carthage. Despite this, these two languages were able to persist in the Maghreb social environment until the fifth century to the sixth century AD, as mentioned in some literary and epigraphic sources.
