Environmental immigration is one of the most widespread phenomena of recent times, posing a significant challenge for countries that receive environmental refugees. This challenge stems from the lack of specific legal regulations for environmental immigration. Notably, the 1951 International Convention for the Protection of Refugees, which identifies five categories of refugees entitled to protection based on persecution due to race, nationality, religion, membership of a particular social group or political opinion, has never included environmental refugees. Therefore, this study aims to examine all aspects of the environmental refugee, including their legal status and international efforts to address this phenomenon.
