In this study a numerical verification of the integrity of a flexible plate taking into account its interaction with the fluid (FSI) is presented. The bi-directional partitioned FSI approach is applied to a test case of 3D fluid flow at medium Reynolds number. The results obtained by coupling the ANSYS Transient Mechanics and ANSYS Fluent codes show that the results of the fluid flow velocity and pressure profiles are approximately close to those obtained by the MpCCI code. The elastic instability of the plate and the flow disturbances that can destroy the plate are predicted by evaluating the Strouhal frequency of the fluid flow and the natural frequency of the plate. The results obtained for van Mises stress and structural deformation were found to be below safety and design limits.
