New Keynesian Phillips Curve For Algeria: Output Gap Or Real Marginal Cost

Authors : Bougriba Chahinez . Djouahna Saliha .

Abstract

This study aims to identify the dynamics of inflation in Algeria from 1990 to 2022 using the New Keynesian Phillips Curve in its narrow and hybrid versions. In addition to forward- and backward-looking components, the output gap and real marginal cost were used to assess economic activity and possible inflationary drivers. The research concludes that the New Keynesian Phillips Curve, with a backward-looking perspective and a focus on real marginal costs, provides a good description of inflation dynamics. This highlights the importance of the backward-looking viewpoint in Phillips Curve connections, as well as the power of real marginal costs in steering inflationary patterns in Algeria over the research period.
