Urban Policies And The Algerian City Between Reality And Aspiration

Authors : Bechiat Noureddine . Chouichi Zahia .

Abstract

Through this paper, we aim to track the urban policies in Algeria in their broad lines from a critical perspective in an effort to uncover the defects in them. After six decades of building the civic state in independent Algeria and the succession of various urban policies with diverse orientations, goals, and mechanisms that often contradict each other, they are affected by the different economic and political systems adopted at each stage, highlighting the negative aspects within these policies by focusing on the great rift that exists between texts and regulatory laws and the mechanisms of their application to the urban field. This explains the great contradiction between the official political discourse and the reality of the urban field, especially when it concerns regional development and achieving regional balance.
