Health taxes is one of the most heated topic debate in government policies ,it has been gaining more attention because it impacts positively the citizen’s health behaviour, and it contributes on the additional public revenues as well, when most countries are facing resource scarcity. The study shows that Algeria taxes constantly tobacco products and alcoholic beverages, and more recently in 2020 the Algerian government taxes white and raw sugar, which led to a significant result in raising its revenues. The efforts that have been driven by government policies on taxing sugar sweetened beverages (SSBs)are insufficient, so more urges actions are needed to reduce the sugar content to comply with international standards. Algerian government legislation implements relevant measures in order to ban advertising of unhealthy products. Indeed, health taxes have an economic and health impact, but other aspects should be taken into account.
