Abstract: The concept of responsibility has not received much attention from philosophers, from the Greek philosophical heritage until modern times, because this term has a legal meaning and is related to error. As a result, this concept has not been the subject of explicit philosophical research until recently. However, it has, now, become the driving force of most contemporary philosophical and ethical discussions, and this is due to the challenges posed by scientific development and technology in various fields. This article attempts to reconsider this concept, using French philosopher Emmanuel Hirsch’s approach, as he sought to show how to take responsibility in a world full of pain, abandonment and sometimes contempt, and called for the development of a culture of care, which goes beyond simple treatment and is capable of absorbing technical and biomedical development.
