The Algerian legislator has granted the judicial police officers a set of powers aimed at assisting them in investigation and gathering evidence regarding crimes, their circumstances, and identifying their perpetrators, to arrive at the truth. Among these powers is pre-trial detention, which is of paramount importance due to its severe impacts on the freedom and rights of the individual placed under custody in security centers. It does not merely suspend a specific freedom for these individuals, but also entails the suspension of many personal, professional, and social rights.
