Résumé

This study investigates the incarnation of multiliteracies with the Algerian secondary education context, particularly focusing on the third year textbook New Prospects. The study opted for a qualitative content analysis adapted from the New London Group’s (1996) multiliteracies pedagogy and the Knowledge Process Framework (2006) to evaluate the extent to which this textbook cultivates multimodal competence across the units and its rubrics. The analysis of the textbook contents indicates that there is a superficial integration of semiotic resources across the textbook. While the linguistic and the visual modes are increasingly juxtaposed, the tasks majorly address traditional decoding, and high order knowledge processes such as analysing and applying are the least implemented.
