Résumé

The banking sector's comprehensive adoption of digital infrastructure — encompassing Automated Teller Machines (ATMs), payment cards, and online financial services — has significantly improved service efficiency, accessibility, and financial inclusion. However, this digital transformation has simultaneously expanded the attack surface available to malicious actors, creating complex cyber risks that threaten the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of financial data and systems. This study presents a rigorous examination of cyberattacks targeting electronic banking systems, analysing their typology, lifecycle — from initial reconnaissance through to impact — and the principal threat actors involved. The investigation covers AI-driven attacks, ransomware, phishing campaigns, and Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) operations, and evaluates a spectrum of countermeasures — administrative, legal, technical, and AI-based — with particular scientific emphasis on Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), User and Entity Behaviour Analytics (UEBA), Threat Intelligence platforms, and Security Orchestration, Automation and Response (SOAR) systems. A quantitative dimension is incorporated through cybersecurity risk assessment models and key performance indicators including Mean Time to Detect (MTTD) and Mean Time to Respond (MTTR). The study concludes that effective protection of electronic banking infrastructure requires integrated, multi-layered defence strategies embodying the principle of 'defence in depth'.
