The rapid development of generative artificial intelligence has brought to light significant tensions within Algeria’s current legal framework for the protection of personal data. Law No. 18-07, which is built upon a traditional and linear understanding of data processing, appears increasingly inadequate in addressing technologies that are capable of generating content autonomously, learning from data without necessarily retaining it, and producing outcomes whose harmful effects cannot always be linked to a clearly identifiable act of processing.
