Abstract This article examines the work of the writer Isabelle Eberhard, who lived in Algeria at the end of the 19th century. She focuses on depicting the customs and traditions of Algerian society under French occupation, highlighting in particular the negative aspects that prevailed due to various factors. This study aims to clarify the relationship between literature and society, exploring the interdisciplinary nature of literature and the humanities. It also seeks to shed light on the manifestations of these deeply rooted customs in colonized Algeria, such as the practices of magic and sorcery, as well as the veneration of Sufi sheikhs. The objective is to denounce the ideology of colonialism, which perpetuated these harmful phenomena by suppressing education, restricting access to mosques, and closing schools, with the aim of controlling the country's resources and subjugating its population.
