This study examines the impact of socio-economic factors on infant mortality (0–1 year) after the COVID-19 pandemic, through a field study conducted among some families who lost their infants in the city of Metlili, Ghardaïa Province. The aim of this research is to identify the main factors contributing to the increase in child mortality in general and infant mortality in particular, which is considered one of the most important indicators of the social and health development of a society. The study is based on the following research question: What are the factors influencing infant mortality (0–1 year) after the COVID-19 pandemic in Algeria? A general hypothesis was formulated stating that infant mortality is determined more by health factors than by social, economic, and demographic factors after the COVID-19 pandemic in Algeria. The following sub-hypotheses were also proposed: • The mother's cultural capital influences infant mortality (0–1 year) after the COVID-19 pandemic in Algeria. • The lower the standard of living, the higher the infant mortality rate after the COVID-19 pandemic in Algeria. The results of the study confirmed the research hypotheses, showing that health factors represent the most influential determinants of infant mortality, compared to social, economic, and demographic factors in the post-COVID-19 period in Algeria.
