The purpose of the paper is to study and analyze the impact of dealing in e-marketplaces on attracting foreign direct investment, then to suggest some recommendation on the possibility to exploit investment opportunities in desert areas of Algeria. Based on the critical analysis of the study, dealing in e-marketplaces leads to an increase in imports, which in turn leads to an increase in foreign direct investment, which would strengthen business relationships between countries, then improve and upgrade local production; which leads to globalization when exporting via e-marketplaces. Since dealing in e-marketplaces is difficult to avoid in a digital economy future, Algeria has to rely on foreign direct investment as a mechanism for sustainable development in desert areas; by encouraging local production and SMEs, rather than taking advantage of the foreign invested countries experience and educating citizen to contribute in economy by the consumption of local products.
