Evaluating scour depth is very important for ensuring the safety of any hydraulic structure. In recent years, there has been significant progress in developing methods to estimate scour depth. In this study, the HEC-RAS (version 5.0.3) hydraulic model is utilized to study scour around parallel bridge piers in the Burima River Basin, Tripura, India. The results suggest that it is better to build the new bridge upstream of the existing one instead of downstream. The study also shows that the scour increases during high river flows with longer return periods especially around the side piers, due to faster water and stronger swirling flows. In some cases, the HEC-RAS model predicted more scour than other empirical models like CSU and Larras. Overall, the results from different models matched well, which means HEC-RAS is a useful tool for evaluating bridge scour.
