The deterioration of global food security, exacerbated by crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russo-Ukrainian crisis, has highlighted the shortcomings and vulnerabilities of interconnected global food systems. These challenges have a particularly significant impact on Algeria, which faces a high prevalence of food insecurity, increasing dependence on food imports, and environmental pressures due to climate change. However, the assessment and monitoring of food security in Algeria are of crucial importance, even though their complexity is heightened due to the diversity of indicators and methods used. The study advocates for a holistic and integrated approach, combining several key indicators for a better understanding of underlying challenges and to guide the development of effective agricultural and food policies. Nonetheless, it also raises questions regarding the coherence, reliability, and risk of contradiction of results obtained from a multitude of indicators from various sources, primarily international organizations.
