Algeria And The French Withdrawal From The African Sahel Region

Abstract
The French withdrawal from the African Sahel region marks a significant shift in its strategy towards its former colonies such as Mali, Niger, and Chad. A variety of factors have compelled France to adopt a plan for a gradual withdrawal and to pull back its stationed forces. This creates the potential for a substantial security vacuum and a growing influence of other Western powers, such as Russia and China, due to the strategic importance of the region. As well as the increased risk of security challenges, such as state-building crises, the rising threat of jihadist organizations, and transnational organized crime, all of which impose serious repercussions on international security in general and particularly on the security of its peoples and neighboring countries, particularly Algeria, which is now compelled to intensify its intelligence and military efforts to protect its borders and strengthen its political, diplomatic and economic relations with these countries.
