Journal of Studies in Language, Culture and Society (JSLCS)

Description

The Journal of Studies in Language, Culture, and Society (JSLCS; ISSN 2716-9189, E-ISSN 2676-1750) is an international, double-blind, peer-reviewed, diamond open access journal published by the Faculty of Arts and Languages, Abderrahmane Mira University of Bejaia, Algeria. It publishes original research in English that focuses on language, discourse, or text as the central object of inquiry (this scope applies to all issues from 2027 onward).

The journal publishes original empirical research based on clearly described data and transparent, replicable methods in four sections:

Language Education and Applied Linguistics: This section covers teaching and learning languages, languages for specific purposes (LSP), language testing, language training for teachers, language teacher development, and language learning supported by digital tools and AI.

Discourse, Media, and Society: This section includes analysis of critical, literary, political, media, and digital discourse, along with pragmatics.

Multilingualism, Identity, and Intercultural Communication: Topics here are sociolinguistics, how language policies are made and implemented, intercultural skills, and global citizenship education.

Literature, Translation, and Cultural Representation: This section covers literary studies, postcolonial and transnational literatures, translation and interpreting studies, and the accessibility of media.

Article Types

We accept systematic and scoping reviews if they adhere to an established protocol, such as PRISMA 2020 or PRISMA-ScR. Conceptual articles qualify for consideration only when they move forward current international discussions and rely significantly on studies published within the previous five years. We do not send descriptive overviews, essays, or theoretical discussions for peer review if they lack a clear research question, method, and unique contribution.

Peer Review
First, the editors assess every submission for its relevance to the journal's scope, its originality, the soundness of its methods, and its adherence to the journal's rules, which includes a similarity check. Manuscripts that pass this initial check then go to at least two independent external reviewers for a double-blind assessment. The editor-in-chief makes the final publishing decision based on the reviewers' comments. Typically, it takes 12 weeks from the time a paper is submitted until the author receives the first decision.

Open Access and Publication Charges
JSLCS is a diamond open access journal. All articles are freely and immediately available online upon publication, without embargo or registration. The journal charges no fees of any kind to authors or readers: there are no submission, article-processing, publication or page charges (no APC).

Licence and Copyright

Creative Commons License

All articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Licence (CC BY 4.0; https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/). Anyone may copy, redistribute, adapt, and build upon the work in any medium and for any purpose, including commercial purposes, provided that appropriate credit is given to the original authors and the source, a link to the licence is provided, and any changes are indicated. Authors retain the copyright of their work without restriction and grant JSLCS the right of first publication.

Publication Ethics
JSLCS follows the Core Practices and guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Authors must report ethics approval for research involving human participants, state each author’s contribution using the CRediT taxonomy, and declare any conflicts of interest, funding sources and use of generative AI tools. All submissions are screened for plagiarism. The journal publishes corrections and retractions when necessary, and it handles complaints and appeals in line with COPE guidance.

Publication Schedule and Archiving
JSLCS publishes two issues per year, in June and December, together with occasional special issues subject to the same peer-review standards. The full texts are permanently archived on the Algerian Scientific Journal Platform (ASJP, CERIST).
